How to lose weight

As a nutritional expert I get asked one question all the time…”what’s the secret to lose weight?” My answer; ‘There’s five secrets, but you have to keep doing these five things for at least 6 weeks to get weight loss.’ And, there not really secrets.

Step one; You have to build muscle to increase you metabolism. Simply put, you need to lift weights or do exercises that help build you muscle. You also need to eat more protein as muscle is built with amino acids in protein.

Step two; Do high intensity, interval training. I commonly call this burst training or surge training. It means go as hard as you can for 30 seconds, then rest 30 seconds. Research has shown this type of exercise is far superior than low intensity, long duration exercise (like walking on a treadmill for 30 minutes)

Step three; Eat more fiber. You can supplement or you can increase fibrous foods (like beans, lentils, apples, peas, citrus fruits, oats or flax seeds). Fiber helps to fill you up and helps to bind toxins in your digestive tract. A good ’secret’ is to eat and apple right before each meal…you’ll find you eat less and will make better choices!

Step four; Sleep more. Research has shown that you need more sleep to help with the body changes of exercise. those who slept more lost more weight.

Step five; Handle your stress. This is the most difficult of all the steps. Stress leads to increased cortisol hormone which inhibits weight loss. So as much as possible reduce your stress to lower your cortisol levels. Secret of stress busting? Get adjusted regularly and do vibration therapy! Turns out the nerve stimulation and vibration helps to lower the cortisol levels in your body!

Now you know the secrets…what are you waiting for?

Antibiotics may kill us all!

Perhaps the title is a little harsh…but Dr. Margaret Chan M.D. (the head of the World Health Organization) declared antibiotic use “a disaster”. Dr. Chan stated in a recent speech that the over prescription of antibiotics has led to many antibiotic resistant strains of bacteria. She reported that if this trend continues she could see a future where almost every bacterial infection was life threatening since modern medicine could not treat it. She also commented on a future where ’some sophisticated interventions like hip replacements, organ transplants, cancer chemotherapy and care of problem infants would be out of the question because of the risk of bacterial infection (with antibiotic resistant strains) would be too high. So what’s the solution?

This is where the insanity begins; Dr. Chan does not state that prescriptions of antibiotics should be reduced, nor does she give the statistics on how many antibiotics are beings over prescribed for viral conditions like ear infections; she doesn’t mention how many tons of antibiotics (and steroids) are being used on animals in confinement feed lots. Dr. Chan doesn’t mention any reduction of chemical usage…instead she urges more chemical solutions - new drugs to help solve the issues. Theres one really big problem though…more chemicals have never solved any issues; they only create new problems.

Here’s my solution: Use medical intervention only in an emergency. I see so many people rush to the doctor at the first hint of a cold.  Take antibiotics as a last resort…when no other treatment seems to be working. Also, when you do take antibiotics, take the minimal dose; although every doctor and pharmacist will tell you to finish the entire bottle there is no evidence that taking less antibiotics reduces the number of antibiotic resistant strains of bacteria. In fact, there is a lot of evidence that shows the more antibiotics given, the more antibiotic resistant strains of bacteria are created.

Of course the real solution is to keep your immune system healthy. This is the REAL protection from bacteria as God created your immune system to protect you. There is no magic pill or potion that heals or protects; your body heals and protects itself. Antibiotics can help you in an emergency (like when your body’s defenses are not working) but they always have a price to pay; antibiotics lower your body’s natural defenses and destroys your body’s intestinal bacteria (which help you digest food).

As for me I trust God a lot more than I trust chemist or doctors.

What kills more poeple in the US than any other disease?…

If you guessed cancer as the #1 disease killer in the US you were right! It currently kills 800,000 people per year, slightly more than heart attacks. It’s not the #1 overall killer in the US however, that is the modern medical system (adverse drug reactions, deaths due to hospital infections, surgeries and incorrect injections etc); that kills a whopping 1.3 million people every year! But that’s another story…I want to talk about cancer today!

A documentary film called “Cut, Poison Burn” looks at the business of cancer and why there will never be a cure in the modern medical system. It shows that chemotherapy and radiation therapy have very low success rates; yet oncologists overlook that because of the incredible propaganda that surrounds them.It shows how many expensive tests like mammograms have done little to reduce the death rates associated with cancer - yet are still being praised as remarkable tools in the fight against cancer! It also documents the power of the non-profit organizations like the American Cancer Society and how they command vast sums of money yet only support research that benefits the pharmaceutical industry - not the people who donate to them! Not to mention how much money the top executives are making in these organizations…

Over the past four decades, almost every president on the United states has promised to help in the fight against cancer. Yet, looking at statistics, cancer has continued to rise in almost every area. We spend trillions of dollars on cancer treatments every year…with little or no success to show. Cancer has become the biggest medical business in the world of health care with entire hospitals dedicated to the treatment of that one disease. Where has it got us? The only positive aspect of cancer is that it has brought a lot of money to the pharmaceutical companies and the various people who work in that field.

Whats the alternative? Don’t ask a medical doctor! Oncologists can lose their license and be sued over discussing non medical treatments!! (Some free country) But there are alternative…many of which have better success rates than chemotherapy. Many of these treatments are performed outside of the US since they are considered illegal to perform here! Obviously you need to do you own research outside of the medical world to find these ‘hidden’ cures for cancer.

My advice…don’t ever depend on the medical world! Personally, if I ever get cancer, I would never get medical treatments like chemo or radiation. I don’t recommend tests like mammograms or sigmoidoscopes. I really just preach the basics; eat right, exercise, keep away from pills, get adjusted and keep your attitude positive. My bet is that cancer won’t come for you if your doing all those things!

The train to crazy town…

Talking about the current healthcare system makes me think that people have taken the fast track to crazy town. When did we (as in our society) accept that children need 38 vaccines in the first year of life? That senior citizens who take 10-12 different medications a day are considered healthy? That having over 100,000 deaths every year due to adverse drug reactions are considered reasonable? That spending over 15 trillion dollars a year on healthcare is considered acceptable?

Yet I am considered a ‘quack’ for not believing in this medical system?!? The more I study modern medical practice the more I am convinced that it is killing and injuring far more people than it helps!

I tell people that getting you and your family adjusted regularly is essential to keep your nervous system healthy, which keeps your entire body healthy. Yet many medical professionals discount that; they say it’s just cracking your joints. Why? It’s no mystery that your spinal cord is within your spine, and it’s not a mystery that your nervous system is the master control for every organ, cell and tissue in your body.  It’s not rocket science to see that if your vertebrae are misaligned it will cause pressure on the nerves and spinal cord. And, it makes sense that pressure on the nerves and spinal cord reduced the power flowing to your organs, cells and tissues. How did we board the crazy train to believing that you don’t need to take care of your spine and nervous system in order to maintain your health? Take a look around, the healthiest people are going to chiropractors regularly!

I guess I’ll be content with having ridiculous good health! I will keep eating real, God-made foods that nourish my body! I’ll keep on exercising and moving my joints through their full range of motion! I’ll keep taking supplements to ensure that my body is getting everything it needs! I’ll keep avoiding all the chemicals and poisons that modern medicine promotes! I’ll keep getting adjusted regularly to keep my power fully on!

I won’t be boarding the crazy train anytime soon and neither should you!

“A little bit is OK”?!?!

A patient of mine who has as new baby girl was at her medical doctors office and she was being told that she needed to get her child vaccinated. She told the doctor about her reservations and asked the doctor about the chemicals (most notably the mercury) in the shots to which the doctor immediately replied that the vaccinations are totally safe. He followed that up with all the babies he has personally injected and in his opinion they are all fine. She then asked if the mercury in the vaccines does damage to the baby. Again, the doctor replied with how safe the shots are and how a little bit of mercury won’t hurt the baby.

So what’s the truth? The AMA and the FDA all have recommended allowances for Mercury and not too surprisingly the vaccinations are all way above the recommended safe levels of mercury. Turns out that no level of mercury is safe…it always causes damage, even if it doesn’t kill you. The University of Calgary was able to film the toxic effects of mercury on nerve cells…it is “unnerving” to say the least! The big question is; is the damage created by the various toxic chemicals in the vaccinations worth the risk?

Consider this: The risk of dying after a vaccination is very low…but so is the risk of dying from the diseases the vaccination (supposedly) protects you from. The common flu (influenza), measles, diphtheria, Mumps, rubella…none of these diseases kill normal people. The pro vaccination groups will tell you we must vaccinate everyone to allow protection against outbreaks…but in truth there is no evidence that that theory is true. The pro vaccination groups also promote the safety of the vaccinations… but the truth is no one knows how these chemicals effect us long term; do they cause auto-immune diseases later in life? Is there complications that cause higher risks of cancer as an adult? Is the neurologic damage created by chemicals (like mercury) likely to be a cause of Alzheimer’s disease?  The truth is no one knows.

That’s why I will not be getting my kids of my family vaccinated. As far as I’m concerned there is no safe amount of mercury, ethylene glycol, formaldehyde or any chemical they routinely put in vaccinations, so I won’t be putting those things in my body.

Weight Loss is EASY!?!

It’s January, which means we are being bombarded with ads for weight loss telling us it’s easy and painless…but can it be done? These ads will tell you that their product (piece of equipment, shake or system) is all you need to get the body you want! (Visualize the hard body demonstrating the product now). So what’s the “secret”? How come all of these products and companies have testimonials demonstrating their effectiveness, yet there are so many overweight people around who have tried everything? I’ve evaluated the research. I’ve looked at the statistics. Get ready! I’m going to share the “secret”…

Research show that there is a common thread amongst all the people who have lost weight and have been successful. It turns out that it really doesn’t matter what program they used or what exercises they did or what nutritional supplements they took; it all boils down to two little factors: The first factor is commitment; in other words they were 100% committed to that program, product or system. The second factor is they were persistent; they kept with the program for long enough for their goals to be met. I know…you were hoping that I would reveal a magic herb or secret exercise!! Nope, it’s all about commitment and persistence.

I’ve helped hundreds (perhaps thousands) or people lose weight. I recommend eating and exercising a specific way, but I can almost guarantee that a person will not be successful based on how they react to me when I give them the details. If they are not excited or if they keep asking if they can change the program then I know they won’t stay with it or do it completely. Often, the person may tell me they are doing the program, but I can see in their eyes that they are not fully committed (not doing it 100% or not going to stay with it). It’s not easy! But if you start a program, ANY program, go into it with 100% committment and a mindset of 100% persistence. Watch how fast you lose weight!

Should pregnant women get Flu Shots?

I have a lot of pregnant women in my practice. In fact, I’d say it’s one of my specialties…I really enjoy helping couples have a safe and pleasurable pregnancy! (Yes, I just wrote pleasurable!) One question I get asked commonly, is should pregnant women get the Flu Shot? Seems all the MD’s are pushing it; The CDC recommends it; The pharmaceutical industry highly promotes it. My answer: NO!!

Let’s make something crystal clear; The Flu shot has never been proven to reduce the incidence of the flu. It DOESN’T WORK!! It doesn’t work for babies, adults, seniors or pregnant women. Study after study has shown it’s ineffectiveness. Books have been written on how it fails to decrease the number or severity of influenza. So why do the MD’s and the CDC and the AMA and all the other medical organizations push it so aggressively? My guess…it’s the way they were taught. They believe they should be giving some pill or potion for every illness; it makes them feel useful. Oh…and it is incredibly profitable. Let’s not forget that reason!

Let’s also remember that the flu vaccine (like all vaccines) contains all sorts of harmful chemicals that WILL move past the placenta and into the baby’s blood supply.  Flu shots contain mercury, formaldehyde, ethylene glycol, antibiotics, egg particles, embryonic particles (human or animal), aluminum and a host of other dangerous chemicals. They might not kill you, but I sure don’t recommend giving those chemicals to a baby…or an adult. Especially if it’s proven to NOT PROTECT YOU from the Flu!

The last word? Say NO to the flu shot, especially if you are pregnant. I’ll trust in GOD and let my God-given immune system do the work. Who ever decided that the Flu was so dangerous anyway…ah yes, the drug companies are making that claim as well!

Are you a Sheople?

Sheople? Sheeple? However you spell it…are you “it”?

“Sheople”, loosely defined, are people who act like sheep. These are people who do not question anything; they do what they are told and they believe what the authority figures say. Since they act and think like everyone else they tend to look and act like everyone else…and that’s the way “they” like it.

In healthcare, doctors and health professionals love Sheople! These people make great patients because they take their drugs, they don’t question their diagnosis, they get operated on and when things go bad (like they get cancer, have a stoke or wind up in a wheelchair) they accept it without question because, well, everyone gets those horrible diseases…after all, the doctors say its “in the genes”.

The truth is there are people in the world that are incredibly healthy and successful because they do things and believe things differently! They are not Sheople! If you want different results (than your family, friends and neighbors) you need to do things differently! Otherwise you end up just like them!

So when your medical doctor tells you you need to take drugs for the rest of your life, you question them and do some research yourself. Seek out the alternatives and figure out what path you want to take! When your medical doctor tells you it’s the only way, question it and ask around if there are other ways (and there always are!). If your doctor tells you are being a difficult patient, tell him thank you for the complement! If your doctor tells you that chiropractic care won’t help, you ask them what expertise they have to make such a judgement!

Don’t be a Sheople! Think for yourself and keep an open mind! Remember that God has no limitations and that God created you perfectly!

Holiday Stress

It’s hard to not feel stress at this time of year…finances, traffic, colds and flus, Christmas gifts, holiday foods…everything seems to hit us at once! The problem is that stress causes your immune system to function poorly and that leads to getting sick and healing poorly.

My best suggestion to keep yourself healthy for the holidays?  Get adjusted more often! I know what your thinking; how does keeping my spine in better alignment help with mental stress? or eating too many sweets? It’s all related to the nervous system.

First off, remember that stress comes in three forms; mental (money, relationships, job), chemical (eating junk food, chemicals in the water and air), and physical (sitting poorly, bad posture, traumas, bad joints). All of these create stress on your body. But the question is…what is stress? Turns out stress is really a change in your nervous system that leads to a change in your hormones. Specifically, all types of stress (physical, mental or chemical) increase the stress hormone, cortisol.

Here’s the cool part! Getting adjusted helps to increase the nervous system function which ultimately decreases cortisol levels!  There are more joint and movement receptors in the spine than anywhere else in the body, so keeping your spine moving and functioning well is essential to your nervous system function. This explanation is what many researchers are using to explain why people who get adjusted regularly tend to get sick far less often. Simply put, they have less stress on their body, their nervous system functions better and that keeps their immune system stronger!

Take your Vitamin D!

There are some interesting new studies that have opened new questions about vitamin D and the role it has on your immune system. One study from Sweden gives the opinion that a lack of vitamin D is the reason that people get the flu more often in the wintertime as opposed to the summertime (there is less sunlight and thus you produce far less vitamin D)! Although there are still questions that need to be answered, one thing seems to be clear…almost 97% of American are low in vitamin D3 in the wintertime.

If you are one of the people (and there are a lot of you!) who believes everything the government says then my advice to you is DON’T supplement with vitamin D …hopefully that will work out for you. (You may also want to go out and fill you body up with drugs and vaccines as the government says those things are essential for good health!?!?)

If you are one of the people who questions the ‘wisdom’ of the government (or who sees all the collusion and hypocrisy that goes on) then you would know that supplementing with vitamin D3 is safe, cheap and effective. Getting your vitamin D3 levels back up to normal levels not only helps keep your bones healthy, it keeps your immune system in good shape and can even help with your skin and your mental health!

The amount of vitamin D to supplement remains a topic of debate amongst researchers. The government raised the level of recommendation from 280IU’s to 450IU’s last year, but those levels are grossly inadequate. (Pretty much everyone agrees there - except for the government panel who made that recommendation!) Most doctors and scientists recommend 2000-5000IU’s of vitamin D3 per day. From my experience 5000IU’s is the minimal dosage to bring low blood levels of vitamin D up to normal levels. I commonly recommend 5000-10000IU’s for my adult patients, or they can get 15-30 minutes of direct sunlight on 50% of their body.  Beach vacation anyone?
